A few weeks ago, a stunning queen package from Summer Fridays arrived at my door. I received the cult faves – thank you Summer Fridays! They are so good to their fans.
First, I want to highlight the main reasons I love their products
– there’s no fragrance (this is key for me)
– it’s cruelty free
– its paraben free
It’s sad that being cruelty-free is a notable feature, but so few beauty and skincare brands ARE, so yes, it is very much something to endorse and support.
Anyone wondering why parabens are bad? They disrupt the hormones in your body because they mimic estrogen. Too much estrogen can trigger an increase in growth of tumours. This is why parabens are linked to both breast cancer and reproductive issues.
Now, let’s talk about the goods.
I received the Super Amino Gel Cleanser, CC Me Vitamin C Serum, and the Overtime Mask.
I have sensitive, translucent, both dry and combination skin, and this was one of the best cleansers I’ve ever used. It is super gentle and has a nice jelly texture.
It is not a makeup remover – don’t use it as one. It’s a great AM and PM simple cleanser.
I’ve been using this product for 9-10 days now, and I love it. It’s my fave of the three products. The texture is nice and leaves you very glowy. It’s an easy product to layer. Wait 3-4 minutes before applying your next step (moisturizer or SPF) because it needs time to sink in.
I heard from a friend that this product helped reduce her red spots. I also have redness around my nose and chin so we’ll see what happens after about 5 weeks of using it.
This mask is bomb for getting rid of black heads and any build-up. It exfoliates very well – you don’t want to use this more than twice a week. My skin is very chill in the summertime, it’s more prone to breaking out in the Fall, so I’ll be doing this mask more around that time.
I suggest this for anyone who has very oily skin and large pores.
Now, let’s talk about the ways you can use these products in your routine.
In the morning, use the Super Amino Gel Cleanser and follow up with their new CC Me Vitamin C Serum. If you’re totally new to Vitamin C serums, start with a small amount (half a pump) and work your way gradually to a full pump worth of product. Then slather your go-to sunscreen on top. There are a few good drugstore ones – my favourite is Olay’s daily moisturizer SPF 30 for sensitive skin.
Then proceed with your normal makeup routine. Or – if you can – go without makeup. Your skin will love you for it.
If you wash your face in the evening, use the Super Amino Gel Cleanser and follow up with your evening skincare routine. Once a week, use the Overtime Mask. Afterwards work in a night serum, and then finish off with a moisturizer to “lock” everything in for the night.
Beauty products are never a one size fits all scenario, everyone’s skin is so unique and needs it’s own special attention. Whenever buying a new product, dig online for honest reviews like this one, and even search real forums like reddit.
Also, if you’ve never visited an aesthetician – do it! This is the ultimate treat to yourself, and you can gain so much knowledge. I see my facialist 1-2 times a year, and I always visit her with my skincare and makeup bags. I do this so we can chat afterwards about the ingredients in the products I’m using, and she guides me – what I should avoid, what I need more of, etc.
